Anthony Horowitz’s “Alex Rider” series is one of the most popular teen thriller series of our time. The series consists of 12 or so books and is the amazing story of Alex, a british teen’s adventures around the world. “Scorpia” is the 5th book in the series and in my judgement it was a spectacular read. It has been a while since I dipped my toes into something ‘easy-to-read’ but intense story. This novel was wonderfully one of that kind.
The story begins with Alex going for an ‘innocent’ school trip to Venice, but is the teen MI6 spy there to see the museums or is he on a bigger mission? Knowing Alex, he definitely is on an entirely different mission, something close to home this time - he has come to discover the truth about his dead parents. Was his dad really an assassin belonging to a global criminal organization - Scorpia? If that was true, what does it say about Alex? Is he too a killer?
Alex Rider, embarks on this journey looking for truths, and stumbles head-on into the leader of Scorpia herself, is trained by them, goes on a mission, but reroutes to save the world, in this part - London. The author has done an excellent job, checking all the boxes in the crime thriller checklist. Plot twists, dangerous villains, life threat, adrenaline-pumping stunts, near-death experiences and what not!
While the entire Alex Rider series is highly recommendable, I think Scorpia might be my top-favourite. Although, I'm not gonna decide until I finish the series. So my final word here is, of course pick up the book, it's mind blowing!
