It is high time that I wrote a review on what has now become one among my top favourites. “Tomb of Sand” is an amazing read, it is excruciatingly long but worth it. The story of an 80-year old woman - Ma, as she traverses through life with her lively charisma, would put us youth to shame. As the people around her cajole and protect her, Ma emerges as a phoenix over and over at last dying in style!
While the plot itself is very interesting, the author’s stylistic elements keep adding to its flavour. With word play that will make you go into giggles, magical realism where you exist with animals and attend crow meetings, the book has surprises, twists and turns always around the corner. I can keep talking about it but I will finish with saying, if you read literary works and Indian writing, “Tomb of Sand” is one of the books that you wouldn’t want to miss!
