Hello there, readers! How is it going? So, today’s topic is quite controversial and at the same time not. Talk about controversy, right ;) In our modern era, we get judged for calling ourselves feminists. It is still mind blowing how the patriarchy has managed to turn feminism into a taboo. Sadly, a widespread misunderstanding prevalent within the female gender is a major causative factor for this condition.

The two events that caught my attention were first of all, the Indian Women’s Cricket team historic ODI World Cup win. The second one was the Miss Universe Thailand, both quite different instances, nevertheless elucidate the ideals of the right feminism. Let’s discuss the first incident - the Indian cricket team.
A few years back, 2022 to be exact, a bollywood film “Shabash Mithu” dominated the screens. It highlighted the existent gender inequality within the country and particularly the sport. Unlike most movies, the Indian Cricket team did not win the world cup in the film, they came to a close second. However, they still won the hearts of Indians and gained recognition - still a victory.
Today, when the team finally won its World Cup, former team members, including Mithali Raj (the protagonist of Shabash Mithu), were at the field celebrating. Male cricketers attended the match in support and the team is in the global spotlight. This victory definitely engrained confidence within ‘every Indian girl’ including this writer, to stay consistent with our dreams.
Feminism & Womanhood:
The second incident was the Miss Universe Thailand. Over a controversy with the event organizing director, the event saw a rare occurrence of universal womanhood. One of the contestants, Miss Mexico, was insulted by the director. In response, the contestant refused to remain silent and called him out on the disrespect. She stated that “I have a voice”.
Following this, many of the contestants walked out in protest of their fellow contestant being ill-treated. This is a clear depiction of universal womanhood, and what our earliest feminists envisioned.
These two instances show how women fight for and win equality. Secondly, it also shows zero tolerance when coming to patriarchal oppression and disrespect. While patriarchy is working tirelessly to disguise all forms of feminism as toxic, these instances reaffirm our faith in the discipline and womanhood. To many more wins!
