As the world ventures into the new normal, what society once viewed as quirks, have now become parts of everyday life. As private life loses its meaning each day to allow for new job opportunities, individuals’ interest in societal welfare is drastically diminishing. In addition to these self-centric attitudes, international conflicts between nations are mounting.

Amid numerous questions and discussions, one particularly disturbing aspect stands out - IS HISTORY REPEATING ITSELF? The question seems quite far-fetched from the current point of focus and might even sound irrelevant at a first glance. Allow me to elucidate this hypothesis as you read ahead.

The Present

Firstly, let’s analyze current circumstances - global conflicts and international wars, while always existent, were brought to the forefront when first world nations became involved in years as early as 2014 and 2015.

On the other hand, the initiation of the pandemic and global lockdown did not soothe matters as expected. Instead, it paved the way for further disappointments and rising tensions. Scarcity of resources saw uniformity in terms of global suffering and mass deaths.

Following this, post covid, 2022 saw the official beginning of war between Russia and Ukraine. The Israeli-Palestine conflict followed shortly afterwards in 2023. Recent conflicts in 2025 include US vs. China and India vs. Pakistan, while the aforementioned disputes continue to persist.

The Past

Zooming out into the past, to the Interim period between World War I and World War II. This period is often referred to as the time of Exuberation. People, after surviving the “Great War” felt the need to find joy amidst battling severe post-war traumas.

Individuals were extremely focused on themselves and were blind to the rising conflicts around them. The idea of war terrified citizens and officials alike, that they decided to elude the idea immersing themselves into luxury, instead.

With extravagant parties and merriment, they comforted each other that all was well. However, the tendency did not aid in preventing the more disastrous World War II that followed a decade later.

The Future

While the present circumstance is not a replica of the Interim period, there are signs of resemblance. This raises the question of whether global politics is moving towards unrest or does peace stand a chance yet?

Are these conflicts warning signals or mere false alarms? Should world citizens strive harder to advocate peace and diplomacy before things go out of hands’ reach?

I take my leave here providing the reader with materials to think about and arrive at conclusions, for aren't the answers as numerous as the world’s population?
